Nissan Qashqai

Nissan established a state of the art studio in London, Paddington's old steam train Rotunda facility.

This was Nissan's new styling headquarters in  Europe. NDE (Nissan Design Europe) needed to create a 'showstopper'  concept that would cause press and public alike to sit up and really notice this was a serious world beating studio.

Brief.....

European sales for Nissan Primera and Almera had  never reached the heights that they had in Asia. Nissan Europe had to create a new crossover niche product that would replace the Primera and Almera. Without the success of this product production in Sunderland would close.

The Labyrinth Developments team lead by Nick Gwinnutt was given the task to manage and deliver this world beating show car called Qashqai,  the first showcar out of NDE.

Process.....

This was a new company without an established process. Labyrinth  Developments created a new generic process particularly suited to the short lay off and bespoke product evolution. NDE still use this process  today.

Solution.....

Labyrinth utilised  the services of a small specialised showcar builder and combined with  the great talents of Nissan lead designers the overall result was truly  outstanding.

Labyrinth Developments managed  clay surface development in London and moved the team to Coventry to be  part of the build. Variation budgets were also established and managed  with a planned and agreed contingency.

Continued work.....

Labyrinth Developments  was so successful in the management of Qashqai, the team went on to  manage additional showcars for Nissan in Paris with Pininfarina.

Aston Martin Lagonda.....

Here Labyrinth Developments commissioned by Coventry's CGI managed the  electromechanical interior for Aston Martin’s new Lagonda showcar  revealed in Geneva 2009. The working  prototypes developed to understand the market’s appetite for a Porsche Cayenne/ Range Rover S.V.O Competitors.
